Chief Executive Forced Out at Porsche
A sad day. Mr. Wiedeking - Germany’s Steve Jobs - orchestrated one of the world’s most amazing company turnarounds. He brought back the love for extraordinary products and reinvented the 911 (as the iconic 993) as well as discontinuing the rather questionable models 924, 944 and 928. He brought back the roadster and introduced the SUV (not my favorite), the Cayman and now the Panamera.
Today a new Porsche follows all the basic rules of great product design: simplicity, ease-of-use, functional, great looking, fantastic performance, affordable. When all the other automakers are adding new bells-and-whistles, Porsche focus on performance, quality and simplicity. There are no cup-holders, no iPod charger, no phone integration et cetera. It’s a car made for passionate and high-performance everyday driving.
I mean, if you own a Porsche, why would you want to sip coffee, make phone calls or listen to music when you can (and should have) both hands on the steering wheel, enjoy the roar of the engine and live the dream.
