Guilty as discharged!
I got to leave the hospital and go home today. Both scary and rewarding. I’ve learned what I need to live without 24/7 nursing. The Missus is stepping up and the fantastic nursing, physical and occupational therapy teams at St. Mary’s Hospital are stepping down. I was told I was a great patient but it’s easy to be good when you work with the best (big thanks to Monica, Fran, Elvira, Sister Senerith, Inah, Mina, Rosy, Kelly, Kevin, Melissa, Randy and Susan).
[I was back at work just a few hours after I woke up from the surgery earlier this week. My work is a state of mind and a virtual environment more than a physical place. We need a new name for work as it’s becoming all cerebral and virtual and contingent on other things than time and space.]
The most challenging physical activity is to keep the angle between left leg and torso at least 90 degrees at all times. It’s amazing how many things that demands an angle less than that (in and out of bed, bathing, sitting on couch or at dining room table, picking up stuff, get into car et cetera). I should also avoid crossing my legs. So I designed a new *desk* to meet the new requirements using one of our comfy leather chairs and an old snowboard. It includes a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Leverage what you have. Keep it simple.
