This is my new left hip. It’s made of titanium (metal-on-metal) except for the head which is in cobalt chrome. I’ll be getting a special card to flash when passing through security at airports.
I’ve wanted to share this for over five weeks but didn’t get the post surgery X-rays until today when I saw the surgeon for the first time since 7/27. Everything is healing according to plan and I can start to intensify my physical therapy. I’m also cleared to travel by plane after September 27 which I’m looking forward to.
The full recovery will take about 12 months but I should be able to do most things within 3-6 months. The only exceptions are some of the more aggressive sports I did before the surgery (mtb, snowboarding, wake-boarding, surfing et cetera) need to wait until next summer.
There really cool thing is that I’ve been able to do a lot of fun sports over the past 35 years w/ only one-hip-and-a-half. Imagine what I will be able to do with two full hips - and w/o any chronic pain. Life is and will be even better!
